May

10 April, newborn Noah Wilcox.

2 May - Welcome to our first new member of the year Dave Fullerton. Unfortunately due to the cold and blustery weather Dave was not able to continue the trend set by so many of the new members over the last couple of years, ie set a new overall annual record. However, he was shooting longbow and does appear to be following in that tradition instead, ie attempting to kill the boss, stand or flag with a single arrow. Watch out Frank you've now got a rival.

9 May - Welcome to our first new junior member of the year Kieron Griffin, who not only our newest member, but also our youngest. If the surname seems familiar that's because he's Nick's nephew.

16 May - Welcome to three more members, Mark-Jan Dielemans and father and son combo Jeff and Ben Price. Mark-Jan joins us from Holland where he shot for several years and Jeff and Ben completed our beginners' course last summer, but as it was coming up to rugby season, waited until now to join.

17 May - What a month this is proving to be, not only our first new members of the year, but now also our first new arrival of the year. Congratulations to Paul and Sarah Wilcox who have become parents again (see photo). Noah Wilcox arrived on Monday 17 May at 9.07pm, weighing a healthy 7 lbs 11 ozs, a younger brother for Gethin. Now Paul and Sarah have two fletchlings in the making.

30 May - Welcome to our sixth new member of the month Ivan Sajdak. Ivan brings even more bow type diversity to the club being our first ever compound limited archer. So, automatically, the round he shot today is a new overall club record.

March

6 March - The club gained two new level 1 coaches today - Rob Morgan and Mark Pollard. Congratulations and very well done to you both. Congratulations also go to Hossein Tavakoli who passed his final assessment as a coach as well. However he was a very late applicant for the course so all the paperwork hasn't yet caught up with itself. Once that is in place he will also become one of our club coaches.

11 March - All junior archers are eligible to take part in JAWS (Junior Awards Scheme). They are awarded points for reducing handicaps, entering competitions and so on. At the end of the year all the points are added up and eventually, ie today, certificates are sent to club secretaries. Harry Francis was our only participating member, coming 86 overall and as he was in the top 100, for the second year running he also received a metal pin badge. Yet again, well done H.

January

1 January - Happy New Year everyone. And we start the year with something slightly different, a trip back in time and a jump in location. Archery has long been an inclusive sport for disabled people and this Pathé news clip of 'Amateur Robin Hoods', 1957 at Southend-on-Sea shows just that. Unfortunately we hadn't quite reached gender equality at that point, the women's competition followed the men's. Many thanks to Philip Rolls, the web editor for The society of archers and the ancient silver arrow, aka 'The Scorton Arrow', for the link.

Meanwhile, back at the outdoor venue, four hardy souls took to the line for the first shoot of the year, Nick Griffin, Mel and Scott Hilton and Steve Ludwell. They were supported by representatives of the Morgan and Wilcox clans. With the temperatures so low, only Nick and Steve completed their rounds, both getting their first reclassification score of the year. Congratulations both. However, with only two people finishing the shoot it was decided to hold over the New Year best gold trophy until the first full Sunday outing of the year.

Handicap Improvement Medal - this is awarded annually to the club member who has achieved the highest handicap reduction in the previous year. There are very strict eligibility criteria set by the GNAS, so for 2009 those were:

And the winners were:
